Takes Active Role in Copper Legislation
Public Service Commissioner Leonard Bentz is working with the Home Builders Association of Mississippi and other interested groups in initiating new legislation to battle copper theft. Copper theft has become a problem, because vandals can sell the copper for quick cash. In all cases, the damage from the theft is more costly than the materials.
The legislation would put restrictions on the businesses that purchase the copper. By stopping the availability of the quick cash, proponents believe that it will slow down, if not stop, the copper theft problem.
Commissioner Bentz has been a friend to the home building industry and continues to be an ally as the Public Service Commissioner. The legislation would be a big help to builders who continue to lose money due to construction theft and vandalism
